Terms of Use

These terms apply to your use of the Receipt Ripper website at receipt-ripper.com ("the Service"). By using the Service you agree to these terms; if you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

What the Service is

Receipt Ripper is a free, browser-based tool that turns receipt photos and PDFs into structured data using OCR and rule-based parsing that runs entirely inside your browser. There is no account, no server-side processing of receipts, and no upload of receipt content. See the About page for the longer description.

License to use the Service

We grant you a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for personal or commercial purposes, subject to these terms. The license is revocable if you breach these terms (for example, by abusing the Service in the ways described under "Acceptable use" below).

The Service makes use of open-source components — Tesseract.js, Mozilla's pdf.js, libheif-js, SheetJS, and others — each of which is licensed separately. See /LICENSES.txt for the full attribution and license text.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to process content you don't have the legal right to process.
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload, or interfere with the Service or other people's use of it.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of any obfuscated portion of the Service, except to the extent permitted by law or by the open-source licenses of included components.
  • Scrape, mirror, or republish substantial portions of the Service's content without attribution.
  • Use the Service in a way that violates applicable law, including export controls, data-protection law, or laws governing financial recordkeeping.

Your data

The Service is designed so that your receipt content — image bytes, OCR text, parsed fields, edits, tags, and exports — never leaves your browser. That design is described in detail in the Privacy Policy. We do not store, process, or transmit receipt content on our servers because our servers don't receive it.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the data you produce using the Service. If you use the export for tax filing, bookkeeping, expense reimbursement, or any other consequential purpose, please review the parsed values before relying on them. OCR is probabilistic and can misread amounts, dates, or vendor names.

Advertising and donations

The Service displays Google AdSense advertising and offers an optional Stripe Payment Link donation prompt before exports. Receipt content is never shared with Google, Stripe, or any other third party. The AdSense slot only knows our publisher and unit IDs; the donation link is a plain external navigation to a Stripe-hosted page. The Privacy Policy covers this in full.

Donations are non-refundable, voluntary, and not tied to any feature unlock. The full feature set is free on every visit.

Third-party content

Advertising creatives displayed in the AdSense slot are served by Google and its ad partners. We have no control over the specific ads shown. Concerns about a specific ad should be directed to Google's Ad Settings.

Warranty disclaimer

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.

We don't warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, that defects will be corrected, or that the parsing output will be accurate for your specific receipts. The output is a best-effort starting point for human review.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will we, our affiliates, contractors, or licensors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total cumulative liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or the Service will not exceed one hundred US dollars (USD 100) or the equivalent in your local currency. The Service is free; this cap reflects that.

Changes to the Service

We may add, change, or remove features without notice. We may also change these terms — when we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

Termination

You can stop using the Service at any time by closing the tab and (optionally) clearing site data in your browser. We may suspend or terminate access to the Service for anyone who breaches these terms or for any other reason at our discretion. Because there's no account, "termination" in practice means the Service may refuse to serve a particular IP — there's no account data to delete.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the operator's jurisdiction without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
